production stills

Posted in celebrity, commercial, documentary, portfolio, production stills by Trey on July 9, 2009

i put together a new PDF book of my production still work. of all the things i shoot, i think production stills are dang near the top of the heap of things i adore. i love the collaborative process that is film making, the energy of a well run set and the way everything looks under the careful craftsmanship of a great DP.

the birth of a photo assistant

Posted in personal, production stills by Trey on July 25, 2008

i’ve been working all week on images from this campaign that’s launching in the fall. as an aside, i’m not trying to be all secretive – i put up a few images and talked about the campaign on here a month or two ago and it didn’t go over well with the client. so, until it launches, i’m not talking about it by name.

anyway, we shoot a piece of the campaign on white cyc & while we wait on our subjects, my assistant (a great friend from college) keeps me entertained. the other day, i said, “hey Lan, go stand over there and make me laugh.”

he didn’t disappoint.

click the image, it looks better large.

thank you very much.

well the test went off yesterday without too many hitches. once we got up & rolling it was a ton of fun. Jason, Robin, Mike & Lan – you are all very awesome. I really appreciate the help & I’m excited about what we got yesterday! also, a big thanks to Zack Arias who was a tremendous help without even knowing it.

if i can, i’ll post a link to all the great stuff we got as soon as they’re online.

and, as always, there’s more after the jump.

a tribute to Mr. Arias; props to him

making pictures & telling stories in Canada

Posted in filmmaking, production stills by Trey on May 22, 2008

as i mentioned in an earlier post, i spent a week in Canada doing some custom photography for a production chemical company. same deal, basically as the Houston trip – i was alongside two good friends that were working on a brand film for the company.

you mix production gear with great scenery and you pretty much end up with a glut of production stills; showing some restraint was difficult, for sure.

some production stills

Posted in personal, production stills by Trey on April 8, 2008

week before last i was hired to do some photograpy alongside a video crew for a production chemical company out of Houston. between setups I would hunt and pick for photo opportunities and in the process fell back in love with on-set photography. there’s something about a production still that really grabs me.

three books and a stick of gum puts the camera in the perfect spot. no joke about the gum.
